Week 2, Part B: Business Research

I am in the business of Ewaste and Surplus Industrial supplies/equipment. I did my Business Research in this area for local companies or companies that include my location in their service area. Here's what I came up with:

Tech Waste Recycling

https://www.techwasterecycling.com/

This appears to be a company that services Southern California. I would not consider them local to my area as they are based in Santa Ana. Their target is business entities. They have an active website that includes links to Facebook, Twitter and Yelp.

Twitter, Account suspended 😲

Yelp, 22 reviews, Last Review 12/19/2020

Prior to COVID shut down, they appear to have been posting several times a week on Facebook. This seems pretty active/engaged for this type of business. While 126 followers isn't that impressive, it's more than I have managed to acquire. There twitter caught me by surprise. I expected some type of activity or even lack of activity. But for it to be suspended for inappropriate posts shows me they were not using it professional manner.  Yelp was reasonably active. They have ownership and have posted pictures as well as positive reviews.

Secure E-Waste Solutions

https://www.sesrecycling.com/

No social media presence, but blog imbedded into their website.

It is information about how to properly dispose of electronic waste. Their web site contains a large amount of information on tracking, handling, and proper disposal of electronic. It was surprising to see so much detail. Their web site looks more like an information site than it does a business commerce site.

Enviro Green

https://e-wastepickup.com/

This is a local company. They serve both residential and commercial customers. Enviro Green recycles electronics and resells them to the public. There were 2 links to social media sites listed on their website.

I found it strange that a business would post social media sites with no activity on their site. The business is temporarily closed due to COVID but there social media is still active on Facebook.

K-Surplus Sales Inc.

http://www.ksurplus.com/

This company serves local customers by reselling recycled products, although they recycled products are obtained primarily form commercial and industrial customers from any area, making them a national business.

K-Surplus had a lot of social media links on their site but they were not very active, some accounts not for years. Some of their social media sites only went to the site itself and not an account, When I searched, none existed for YouTube and Pinterest.

EDCO Waste and Recycling Services

http://edcodisposal.com/

EDCO is a local business that handles the recycling needs of commercial and residential customers. they recycle electronic, hazardous, and construction waste. Their website contains no social media site links, but when searched, I found the following links

Twitter, Followers 1074, last Post November 27, 2020

I thought it was strange that such a large organization has no social media links on their website even though they have fairly recent posts on their social media sites. They had regular posts up until COVID made recycling programs close down. Their last posts were about reopening to the public.

Summary of Research: I found that a lot of businesses in the ewaste industry post social media sites on their websites, some businesses have none at all and others I had to search for. There were a variety of results.  I did not find many that were highly used. Some of the links went to the social media home pages but they did not actually have an account when searched. I do not think the local ewaste businesses are using social media to its full capacity. I know a lot of them are shut down right now because of COVID, but I think it could be beneficial for them to remind customers that they are going to reopen when allowed and still want the customers business.

Comments

  1. All of the companys you researched have a very low following. For smaller companies (maybe not EDCO and such), this would be a great indication of a potential marketer need. Always be on the lookout for businesses with low social media activity.
